The Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP) is pleased to announce the establishment of a scholarship program to provide one of the top 20 students in the Cormack Innovation Awards with the opportunity to complete a Certificate in Packaging.

The Certificate in Packaging is an on-line course developed by the Institute of Packaging UK (IoP) and accredited by the Packaging Industry Awarding Body Company (PIABC) in the UK and holds international recognition in 27 countries.

The Certifi cate in Packaging has a broad appeal, from people who are embarking on a career in packaging to more established delegates who may be working in fi elds such as marketing, purchasing or logistics, for whom a more detailed understanding of packaging will help them to develop their role. The Certifi cate’s modular nature means that you can select from a broad range of subjects to tailor a course relevant to your needs.

AIP Scholarship in Packaging Technology

The Certificate in Packaging is designed to meet the training needs of a wide variety of people involved in packaging, from the new entrant to the industry who wants the best possible preparation for a career in the industry, to design, production, management, sales and marketing or purchasing staff who need to deepen their understanding of this vital and complex discipline.

The Certifi cate in Packaging is a level 3 qualifi cation, accredited by PIABC. The course has recently been presented in a new format for Australia and is comprised of a manual and text book. The initial mandatory Unit is made up of a series of assignments which prepares students for the one hour examination. Successful students then proceed to select four units from a list of options which are presented on-line and supported by a tutor. The successful completion of the compulsory Unit and the four additional units qualifi es for the award of the Certifi cate in Packaging.

WHO AM I?

Delegates to the Certificate in Packaging come to the course from a variety of areas. You may already be established in packaging as a buyer, marketer, production manager or sales person, now looking to expand your knowledge and deepen your understanding of the packaging environment. You may be embarking on a career within the industry and looking for the training that will provide you with a solid bed of information that you can build on.

Certificate in Packaging Mandatory Units

This consists of four parts:

  1. The Fundamental Principles of Packaging
    This unit introduces students to the subject, examining the role and function of packaging in preserving, enhancing,protecting and selling products.
  2. Understanding and Managing Packaging Cost
    The unit examines the factors infl uencing fi nished costs and how they can be effectively managed. Quality plays a key role in managing cost and quality systems aimed at defect protection.
  3. Introduction to Packaging Materials
    The primary packaging materials paper, board, glass, plastics and metals are reviewed in this unit.
  4. Packaging Development
    This unit aims to present a logical approach to managing and implementing packaging development, which can be adapted to suit FMCG packer/fi llers as well as industrial product producers and converters.
