From over 130 entries, the 2009 Cormack Innovation Awards were announced at a gala presentation evening at Sydney's Custom House in front of an audience of dignitaries, industry professionals and Cormack Packaging staff.

Congratulations to Renata Hidajat from the University of Technology Sydney with her winning design 'Verona'. Aesthetically beautiful, Renata's design was judged as highly functional and innovative providing a real step change to the market place.

Renata will now experience design within the packaging industry first hand with a three month internship at the Cormack Packaging head office in Sydney.

The University of Technology capped off a sterling performance in the 2009 Awards taking out both second place- YounDong Kim, and third place- Phillip Nicotra to round out the major awards.

Highly Commended was also awarded to Amy Hermawan (UNSW), Duncan Hellmers (UTS) and Roman Zhirnov (UTS).

All top 20 designs were on display on the evening with industry professionals able to discuss designs with students throughout the evening. Guests were impressed at the high standard of design and innovation from students, with many remarking that 2009 was the strongest year of design that they had witnessed.

Congratulations to Renata and to all students who participated in the 2009 University program.
